About the game:

The Next Penelope is a fast-paced, futuristic racing game with a one of a kind risk-reward weapons system.

Set in a futuristic version of Homer’s Odyssey, you play as Penelope on her journey to reunite with the ever-unfortunate hero Ulysses.

The game itself plays much like Galaga with a twist. It has a lot of side-scroller elements but maintains its 2D racing game heart. The art is loud, the lasers are huge, and most importantly, the bosses are downright terrifying. All this along with the fact that this game is really, REALLY HARD.

As you progress through the game, you gain access to more varied and powerful weapons. You can even mix and match weapons and effects to create different levels and flavors of destruction. But there’s a catch: Every time you use a weapon, it costs some of Penelope’s energy. Be careful not to overdo it. After all, you can’t shoot lightning harpoons if you’re dead.

Aurelien Regard, the sole developer of the game (!) has a short video you can check out on The Next Penelope’s Steam page showcasing some of the sweet weapons and features he’s managed to come up with.

What’s in the box:

The box itself comes with a ton of sweet merch in a throwback case with a lenticular on the front. Included inside is a “The Next Penelope” USB game cartridge with a DRM-free version of the game, the original soundtrack(also composed by Aurelien)(!) with its own custom sleeve, and a pair of stickers(one IndieBox, one “The Next Penelope”).

You also get a game manual and a newsletter from IndieBox HQ. On the OUTSIDE of the box is a Steam key, just in case you wanted to play the game but leave your merch in stasis. Also included is a slap bracelet wrapped around an original poster.
